Oog(st)
More than forty years of recent history
Filip Claus is best known as a pioneering photographer at the Flemish newspaper De Morgen. His high-profile portraits of Belgian politicians and his keenly affecting images of conflicts in South-East Europe, Africa and especially the Middle East have lodged themselves in the collective memory.
After leaving De Morgen, Claus continued to work as a committed street photographer. He likes to describe himself as a guerrilla with the camera as his only weapon. His images are stories, created with immense attention to detail.
The exhibition Oog(st) (‘Visual Harvest’) takes you on a journey through more than forty years of recent history. The texts that accompany and explain these often haunting images, together with Claus’ personal commentary, give us an insight into the not always straightforward conditions in which the photographer works.
