Beauty as Resistance
The exhibition Beauty as Resistance features the most imaginative work of photographer and born storyteller Michiel Hendryckx. For many years, he was a photographer for De Gentenaar and later De Standaard, always on the lookout for that one captivating image, the unforeseen, the intimate tale that he couldn’t resist sharing with his readers. As a leading figure in the Ghent art scene, he became the house photographer of De Blauwe Maandag Compagnie, among others, and thanks to his unbridled passion, was also an inspiring teacher at the Ghent Academy of Fine Arts.
Beauty as Resistance is not a traditional career retrospective, but a personal and eclectic journey curated by the artist himself. Michiel wrote the accompanying stories in his typically poignant style. He also whispers some of the compelling tales to his beloved audience in the audio guide.
